Going Home--It's Oklahoma

I read this title in an article recently and it stuck with me. Today I finally put Westville as my hometown on myspace. I realized this morning that there really is no place like home! No matter where I've been, Oklahoma is home. Westville is not a great town. It is a little rural community with a "meth" problem. It has changed. There is even a stoplight out on hwy 59 now. But, in ways it is still the same. The teachers' children have become teachers and their parents have retired. The "Dairy Bar" is now more of a cafe than a drive-in. There are now 4 convenient stores instead of 2. No place is perfect but those childhood memories can never be replaced. I am sad that my children will never know that peach eatter creek is the coldest swimming hole EVER or that my sixth grade class named the pirate ship or that the football homecoming attendants ride on top of cool cars around the football field (this doesn't happen anywhere else). Just thinking about my hometown!

I totally agree. I was born in Illinois & we are raising our family here... but when I think "hometown" I think of good ol' Broken Arrow. Though it's been years since we've been back there.
